The Centre for the Advancement of Social Impact and Transformation at Stellenbosch University provides dedicated support to faculties in embedding social impact, transformation, and engaged scholarship into teaching, research, and institutional practices.

We collaborate with academic staff to integrate socially responsive approaches that enhance both student learning and community engagement.

Institutional partnerships take the form of Memoranda of Agreement (MoU) between Stellenbosch University and various societal organisations. These MoUs are held by the Centre for the Advancement of Social Impact and Transformation (CASIT), and they commit the university into a working relationship with external organisations. The MoUs are managed through steering committees consisting of representatives from SU and from the external partners. The steering committees create opportunities for mutually beneficial collaborative initiatives.

Imbizo 365 Calendar of Engagement

Imbizo is a Nguni (a grouping of certain African languages) word for a traditional community gathering called by the chief to solve pertinent community issues.

The Imbizo365 Calendar activities utilises various methodologies such as creative arts, film discussions, debates and excursions to facilitate reflection on eight calendar themes.

Lückhoff Community

The foundational principles guiding the interpretation and implementation of Stellenbosch University’s (SU) Social Impact Policy are rooted in societal relevance and working for the public good. The decision to return the Lückhoff High School building emphasizes the university’s role in not only acknowledging its past but also in contributing positively to the future.
