Using the Imbizo 365 Calendar of Engagement as a frame of reference, the CEF seeks to sustain yearlong inclusivity and diversity engagements at SU in student communities.
The Critical Engagement Forum adopts a streamlined approach to critical engagement in communities, residences and other student groupings at Stellenbosch University (SU).

Using the Imbizo 365 Calendar of Engagement as a frame of reference, the CEF seeks to sustain yearlong inclusivity and diversity engagements at SU in student communities. The CEF connects critical engagement in student communities to transformation and inclusion conversations happening at the same time around the greater university.

The CEF consists of a series of workshops aimed at imparting skills and resources required to identify social issues that need to be addressed in communities.  This effectively equips Critical Engagement and Transformation HC’s with facilitation skills to hold conversations and collective sense-making on sometimes uncomfortable yet important topics that are inevitable in transforming spaces.  Students who take part in the CEF are given the opportunity to hone on the soft skills required to guide group conversations to amicable conclusions and practical solutions.

A collaboration between SRC officer for Transformation, The Centre for the Advancement of Social Impact and Transformation and the Division of Student Affairs, the CEF is an attempt to change the negative reputation critical engagement has gained in student communities. The forum aims to sway student’s perceptions of critical engagement and encourage students to embrace opportunities to grapple with complex social issues and current affairs with their peers.
