Profile

Michelle Pietersen is the Manager: Engaged Citizenship at the Centre for the Advancement of Social Impact and Transformation, responsible for the portfolio: Engaged Citizenship at Stellenbosch University, with 17 years of experience as a community practitioner. In this role, she is responsible for leadership training for all Social Impact leaders within the residence environment, faculty committees and societies encompassing both the Tygerberg and Stellenbosch campuses.

The focus of this structured volunteer programme is to create experimental learning opportunities for students that align with the University’s 2040 vision of fostering a transformative student experience. This programme supports the institutional commitment to reciprocity, redress, development, and transformation.

Ms. Pietersen also oversees the Experiential Learning Offerings, Transformative Social Work online course, which introduces first-year Social Work students to develop responses to real-life challenges and encourages active citizenship.
